GRAPE VARIETY: 100% Tempranillo

VINE: Single vineyard 95 years old.

CLIMATE: The Climate has an Atlantic influence, with cold winters, warm summers and long warm autumns. The strong temperature variation between day and night causes slow ripening, which is very suitable for producing polyphenols, developing aromas, and giving our wines their characteristic quality.

SOIL: The vineyard is located in the village La Guardia (La Rioja), and the soil is calcareous and clay with a bigger percentage of rocks, this is a very poor soil, that give the best grapes of this variety.

WINEMAKING: The elaboration is made in the stainless steel tanks, and the malolactic fermentation is made in new French oak barrels of 500l. After this process remain for a period of 14 months.

AGEING: 14 months in new 500 liters French oak barrels (troncais).

HARVEST: Hand-harvested in 17 kg. cases in the third week of October. Vineyard yield of 1000 kg. per hectare.

2013 VINTAGE: The Control Board of the Rioja Designation of Origin gave the 2013 Rioja vintage the official rating of “GOOD”. Marked by unusual weather conditions, the 2013 vintage was successfully managed thanks to the know-how and expertise of Rioja´s winemakers.

PRODUCTION: 5.000 bottles.

ANALYSIS: Alcohol: 14.5% vol. pH: 3.9 Total Acidity: 5.1 g/L TH2

Volatile Acidity: 0.75 g/L AcH Total Sulfur: 66 mg/l Residual Sugar: 1.2 g/L

TASTING NOTES: It is a vibrant, deep and saturated color, the nose has really deep, glossy black fruit, but it is more smoke-swirled plum and deep, ripe cherry than cassis. There's a delightful, subtle floral fragrance and elegance, partly the quality, lightly-toasted oak, partly the natural fruit concentration. In the mouth that cherry skin bitter sweetness again, quite spicy and exotic, nuanced flavors of cardonom and anise amongst the fruit. The oak is polished, smoky, chocolaty but edged with firm endive and licorice bite. Hugely concentrated and excellent. Should have considerable cellaring potential given the balance and intensity
